Hello all! Welcome to my fall update! 🙂
You know those times when the stars seem to align in just the perfect way to mess with you? Lol, that’s where I’m at right now. 🙂
Admittedly, this is a dilemma of my own making, but darn it – it’s so much more fun (not to mention convenient) to say it isn’t!
<– Yep… He totally did it… Not me…
I’ve realized I’m juggling too much, and unfortunately it’s taking a toll on my writing. Has that ever happened to you? Life conspires to give you reason upon reason that you can’t carve out even an hour to write. And, in my case, I’m afraid to take the plunge, so I move too slow – which means, you guessed it, way too much on my plate at once.
I’m realizing I just need to go for it. Take the risk, you know? If I’m going to get anywhere, things will be harder during the transition. But the end result – being self-employed and published – will be SO worth it.
Taxes will suck. But that’s another story. 🙂
So – here are my goals for this fall:
1) Get my massage business off the ground.
I’m ready to attack the job situation. Slowly, I’m going to take down my hours at my job and finish the work I started months ago of building a client base on my own.
Advertising is crazy expensive. And having one job to pay the bills while trying to get another off the ground is hard. I’ve let these things get in my way, and everything came to a halt. But I’m determined that I’m going to start moving again. I’ll stand out front of my office with a sign and go door to door with flyers if I have to. 🙂
I will miss my awesome clients, but hopefully they’ll come find me. 🙂 I’m not allowed to invite anyone from my current job, so starting from scratch will be hard.
But I’m up for the challenge. 🙂
No more hesitating.
I’m going to get a Facebook and maybe a LinkedIn up and running for my massage business soon, and I’ll post it. A friend of mine, DarkJade, also mentioned Kickstarter. I may look into that as well. And through my massage insurance I’m supposed to be able to get a free website, which I’ll also post if that’s true. 🙂
2) Get my novel in shape for January.
Because I have two jobs for now, and have been so focused on finding cost-effective ways to budget advertising in, my writing has been suffering. A lot.
It’s been weeks since I’ve posted here, and I’m truly sorry for that.
I have an awesome critique group, where I’ll put up a request for a critique partner.
But I’d also like to put the word out here as well. I’m looking for critique partners, and would love to trade beta-reading. If any of you are interested, just let me know! 🙂
I’m also looking into self-publishing for my short stories. DarkJade also mentioned Create Space and Kickstarter for that. I’m thinking I’ll publish the stories in groups – maybe three or four together, with some extras that I didn’t post here.
And I’ve officially started my Facebook for my writing! 🙂 There isn’t much there for the time being, but I’ll work on getting more content on there. Maybe I’ll post songs from my soundtracks.
My promise to you, my friends, is that I will get back to my writing here. Once a week I’ll have a chapter for you. And as I get the job situation under control, I’m hoping to give you all updates on my novel as it goes and get those shima guides posted.
You may also see a completely random post about my over the top love for pumpkin flavored foods and beverages, and Halloween in general. 🙂
Until next time, Happy Writing! 🙂
I know exactly what you mean! I was supposed to take September and write my book and, well… Now I am taking October, so guess how well that went? 😉 It gets hard to do the writing sometimes, especially when it’s not what pays the majority of the bills!
Good luck in all the above! 😀
Thank you Joleene, and good luck to you too! 🙂
