My Fantasy Circle Of Five

Sorceress  Hello all! I’ve been tagged to share five fantasy characters with you that I’d love to spend time with. Lol, this is going to be tough – I have a lot of characters I absolutely love! 🙂

fantasycirclelitandscribbles

First, I’d like to thank Miss Alexandrina for passing this fun challenge on to me. 🙂

The Rules:

1) List five fantasy characters you’d like to spend time with, and give a little info on why you chose them.

2) Pass it on! 🙂

Who I’m passing it on to:

~ There isn’t really a set number, so I picked ten. 🙂

1) DarkJade

2) Lorna

3) David Lee Summers

4) Yawatta Hosby

5) Harry

6) Emily Guido

7) Joleene Naylor

8) Alexandra Anthony

9) Michael Langlois

10) Sherry

My five fantasy characters I’d like to hang out with:

Lol, I notice I tend to gravitate towards strong female characters, and characters with ugly pasts who go on to rain some epic doom style vengeance upon their enemies. 🙂 Only one man made it on the list this time around, but there are a ton of characters I would have loved to include, both male and female.

Looking at the characters I’ve chosen, and even the ones that I wanted to include but wouldn’t fit – I think I’m building a crime-fighting army to hang out with. 🙂 Like the Justice League or the Avengers, but without masks, capes, or spandex…. Well, aside from number 4. 🙂 But that’s more pleather than spandex, so it doesn’t count, right?

It’s not part of the rules at all, but I decided to include the synopsis for each movie. I figure that way, even if you haven’t seen the movies, you’ll still get an idea of who each character is. I also wanted to share some music from the soundtracks of the movies I picked. Just for fun. 🙂

1) Danny (the Dog)

[IMG]

~ I totally love this character. Played by Jet Li, from the movie Unleashed.

“On and beneath the meanest streets of Glasgow, fiery gangster Bart is merciless with debtors, would-be rivals, and anyone else to whom he takes even a passing dislike. How does Bart maintain his chokehold? Through his unwitting enforcer Danny, who he has “raised” since boyhood. Danny has been kept as a near-prisoner by his “Uncle” Bart; trained to attack and, if necessary, kill. Danny knows little of life, except the brutal existence that Bart has so crudely and cruelly fashioned for him. But when Danny has a chance encounter with soft-spoken blind piano tuner Sam, he senses true kindness and compassion for the first time and experiences the transforming power of music. When a sudden gangland coup separates Danny from Bart and his mob, Danny is at last away from the underworld. He takes refuge with Sam and his spunky teenaged stepdaughter Victoria. Sam and Victoria open their home and hearts to Danny, who begins to envision a new future for himself. However, the mob will not give up its prize pupil so easily, and Danny must soon fight again, and fight back, to protect his new family and bury his troubled past.” – from Yahoo! Movies.

“Baby Boy” by Thea, from the Unleashed soundtrack

I picked Danny as my first choice because he really inspires me. And I love martial arts too. 🙂

But mainly, I love how he actually seems kind of innocent, despite all the horrible things happening around him and to him. Watching him go through piecing his past together, and dealing with those memories, is so sad. But then he finds a new way to live, and starts making new memories. In the end, he draws strength from these things, the good and the bad, and he uses it to protect the people he loves.

When I think of overcoming something painful, and learning how to move forward, he’s a character I think of. To me, this man seems unbreakable. I’d love to just sit and talk to him – and maybe learn some kick ass martial arts too. 🙂 I think he’d have a wonderful perspective to learn from, in both conversation and fighting.

2) Lt. Ellen Ripley

Ellen Ripley

~ One of my all time favorite characters. 🙂 Played by Sigourney Weaver, from the Alien movies.

Alien“In deep space, the crew of the commercial ship Nostromo–comprised of five men and two women–is awakened from their cryo-sleep capsules, halfway through their journey home to investigate a distress call from an alien vessel. The tale unfolds as they further look into the S.O.S. distress call from that battered commercial space vessel–only to discover that it’s a warning call, rather than a call for help. However, it is too late to turn back as three members of the crew have already left to investigate the derelict ship. Far away in space and time, all five encounter an awesome galactic horror, that begins to kill the crew members one by one.” – from Yahoo! Movies.

Aliens“Ripley (Sigourney Weaver), the sole survivor from the original ALIEN, is awakened after 57 years of drifting through space, her stories disbelieved by Company executives who tell her that the alien’s planet is now inhabited and colonized. When contact is suddenly lost with the colonists, Ripley returns to the planet with a squad of marines, an android (Lance Henriksen), and a Company executive (Paul Reiser) with a mission of his own. Once on the planet, no survivors can be found except for Newt, a little girl who awakens motherly instincts in Ripley just in time for the acid-blooded aliens to attack in what quickly becomes a one-sided battle for sheer survival…” – from Yahoo! Movies

Alien 3“After escaping from the alien planet, the ship carrying Ellen Ripley crashes onto a remote and inhabited ore refinery. While living in the ore refinery until she is rescued by her employers, Ripley discovers the horrifying reason for her crash: An alien stowaway. As the alien matures and begins to kill off the inhabitants, Ripley is unaware that her true enemy is more than just the killer alien.” – from IMDb.

Alien: Resurrection“200 years after the conclusion of Alien 3, the company is able to resurrect Ripley through the process of cloning and the scientists successfully take the Queen Alien out of her. But, Ripley’s DNA gets mixed up with the Queen’s and she begins to develop certain alien characteristics. the scientists begin breeding the aliens, but they later escape. Soon the Xeno-morphs are running amok on the ship, which is on course to earth. The Queen then gives birth to a deadly new breed of alien, which could spell disaster for the entire human race. It’s up to Ripley and a band of space pirates to stop the ship before it reaches earth.” – from IMDb.

“Ripley’s Theme” from the Alien: Resurrection soundtrack

I love how tough this character is. She’s one of those ultimate badass female characters to me. She isn’t superhuman. She has no special weapon/martial arts training. She isn’t even a soldier. No special powers – well, at least not up until that last movie. 🙂  But no matter how messed up things get, she’s always putting her life on the line to try and save people. Even if she’s scared. Even if she doesn’t want to be there. Even if certain people choose not to heed her warnings and get themselves into trouble. And, worst yet, even when she’s being used by the people who are supposed to be looking out for her. She goes through all four movies fighting the aliens despite all this.

I think that’s why I like her so much. She’s human. Relateable. But still amazingly strong in her determination. I want some of her bravery, and in general badass-ness, to rub off on me. 🙂

3) Beatrix Kiddo (The Bride/Black Mamba)

~ I think she’s so epic. I can’t help it. Played by Uma Thurman, from the Kill Bill movies.

Kill Bill: Vol. 1“The lead character, called ‘The Bride,’ was a member of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, lead by her lover ‘Bill.’ Upon realizing she was pregnant with Bill’s child, ‘The Bride’ decided to escape her life as a killer. She fled to Texas, met a young man, and on the day of their wedding rehearsal was gunned down by an angry and jealous Bill (with the assistance of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad). Four years later, ‘The Bride’ wakes from a coma, and discovers her baby is gone. She, then, decides to seek revenge upon the five people who destroyed her life and killed her baby. The saga of Kill Bill Volume I begins.” – from IMDb.

Kill Bill: Vol. 2“The murderous Bride is back and she is still continuing her vengeance quest against her ex-boss, Bill, and taking aim at Bill’s younger brother Budd and Elle Driver, the only survivors from the squad of assassins who betrayed her four years earlier. It’s all leading up to the ultimate confrontation with Bill, the Bride’s former master and the man who ordered her execution!” – from IMDb.

“Goodnight Moon” by Shivaree, from the Kill Bill: Volume 1 soundtrack

I think she would be awesome to hang out with. She’s so over the top – lol, both of the movies were completely over the top – but that’s part of why I think she’s so interesting. And she’s absolutely relentless in pursuing her vengeance. With good reason. I really can’t say I blame her. Lol, even if it does get a little crazy.

And I so want her to teach me “the exquisite art of the samurai sword.”

I’d love to learn sword techniques! Someone at a local martial arts supply store told me it was Iaido that they were doing, and that there’s someone who teaches it here. Lol, I’m so going for it! 🙂

“However… Before satisfaction would be mine… First thing’s first… Wiggle your big toe.”

4) Selene

~ This character is another big favorite. Played by Kate Beckinsale, from the Underworld movies.

Underworld“For centuries, two races have evolved hidden deeply within human culture – the aristocratic, sophisticated Vampires, and the brutal, feral Lycans (werewolves). To humanity, their existence is no more than a whisper of a myth. But to each other, they are lifelong mortal rivals, sworn to wage a secret war until only one race is left standing. In the midst of this ongoing struggle, a Vampire warrior, Selene, discovers a Lycan plot to kidnap a young human doctor. After shadowing Michael through the city, she forms an unprecedented bond with him, and when the Lycans make their next move, Selene is there to fend off their vicious assault. As she races to save Michael and unravel the Lycan intrigue surrounding him, Selene discovers a secret that has terrifying repercussions for both tribes–a nefarious plan to awaken a new invincible species of predator that combines the strengths of both creatures and weaknesses of neither, which threatens to tip the balance of power in favor of the werewolves, who have been on the losing end of the struggle for centuries.” – from Yahoo! Movies.

Underworld: Evolution“Underworld: Evolution continues the saga of war between the vampires and the Lycans. The film goes back to the beginnings of the ancient feud between the two tribes as Selene, the beautiful vampire heroine, and Michael, the lycan hybrid, try to unlock the secrets of their bloodlines. This will be a modern tale of action, intrigue and forbidden love, which takes them into the battle to end all wars as the immortals must finally face their retribution.” – from IMDb.

Underworld: Awakening“The vampire warrioress Selene, escapes imprisonment to find herself in a world where humans have discovered the existence of both Vampire and Lycan clans and are conducting an all-out war to eradicate both immortal species.” – from Yahoo! Movies.

“Awakening” by The Damning Well, from the Underworld soundtrack

Selene is just as epic as Beatrix Kiddo, but a much more serious and stoic version. And – she’s a vampire! 🙂 Vampires are epic all by themselves. They need nothing else to make them cool, in my opinion. And, as with Ellen Ripley, I love how tough she is. She’s been loyal and believed in one idea for so long, but when that’s turned upside down she still follows what she feels is right. It’s not the easy path, and it puts her up against a lot of powerful people, but she follows her heart anyway.

And, I also love that there’s a really great love story in there, mixed with all the action and intrigue and supernatural beings. Very cool – exactly my kind of story. 🙂 If you’ve never seen this series – it doesn’t get a lot of attention for some reason – definitely rent or Netflix it! It’s kind of the happy middle ground between True Blood and Twilight, but with A LOT more guns and fighting. Very, very cool.

Oh, and if you do rent it – don’t watch the prequel first!!!! Lol, it’ll ruin the first movie. 🙂

5) Leeloo

~ This character is awesome, and fun at the same time. 🙂 Played by Milla Jovovich, from the movie Fifth Element.

“Good and evil battle for the future of 23rd century Earth in this visually striking big-budget science fiction epic. In the movie’s prologue, which is set in 1914, scientists gather in Egypt at the site of an event that transpired centuries earlier. Aliens, it seemed, arrived to collect four stones representing the four basic elements (earth, air, fire and water) – warning their human contacts that the objects were no longer safe on Earth. A few hundred years later (in the 23rd century), a huge ball of molten lava and flame is hurtling toward Earch, and scientist-holy man Victor Cornelius (Ian Holm) declares that in order to prevent it from destroying the planet, the same four elemental stones must be combined with the fifthe element, as embodied by a visitor from another world named Leeloo (Milla Jovovich). However, if the forcee of evil presents itself to the stones instead, the Earth will be destroyed, and an evil being named Zorg (Gary Oldman) will trigger the disaster. Despite her remarkable powers, Leeloo needs help with her mission, and she chooses her accomplice, military leader-turned-cab driver Korben Dallas (Bruce Willis), when she literally falls through the roof of his taxi…” – from MSN Entertainment.

“Lucia Di Lammermoor” & “The Diva Dance” by The London Symphony Orchestra & Inva Mulla Tchako, from the Fifth Element soundtrack

Leeloo is the most light-hearted out of all the characters I chose for this list. Lol, I can see her as being the life of the party, and definitely lightening the mood for the group. 🙂 With serious characters like the others, this is a must, or we could potentially be one gloomy bunch. I think she could shake the others up and remind them to smile once in a while.

Lol, not that she should be taken lightly. She’s still a fighter, not to mention that she’s the ‘supreme being’ – reconstructed from part of an arm and a hand. She’s pretty damn tough. 🙂

I totally want to learn the “Diva Dance” from her! 🙂

~~~~~~~~~~
So, who would be in your army – I mean circle of five? 🙂
Until next time, Happy Writing and Take Care! 🙂
  1. Cool and great choices! Now I have to see who I’m going to tag! 🙂
    I’ve only seen the Beginning of “Unleashed”, so I know the Character you’re talking about, but only a bit.
    Ripley Kicks A$$! And I can say that I was actually at “Aliens” Opening Night, and it was one of My Best Moving Experiences Ever… Yeah, I’m that old, Lol
    Love, Love, Love Beatrix Kiddo… I, like you, am very Drawn to Strong Female Characters… I believe many of the ones I Write about are Very Strong. My Mom was a Strong Single Parent growing up, that might have something to do with it, not sure. Love the First Kill Bill.
    Selene is Awesome… She totally makes that Series, though the Werewolf Prequel one is also a Good Film… But that’s mainly because the Leader Werewolf is such a Bad A$$ Actor. Michael Sheen.
    I’d Crush hard on her though, Lol And she’d break my heart, like she did to Michael Sheen… Wait, I’m thinken Kate Beckinsale, who was dating Michael Sheen at the beginning of shooting, and was Dating the Director by the end of the movie, Lol. Eh, maybe Sheen was a Jerk, Lol
    But that’s not Selene, Selene is Bad A$$
    Oh dear, Leeloo, I’m not sure I could think straight if I was around Leeloo, Lol She is the epitome of Cute in that movie… AND ALSO A BAD A$$!! Lol But really, when she’s crying in the back of the Taxi, I would have broke down and helped her in anyway I could have as well.
    Love her, and Mila, she is Cool
    Great List, Love many of these Characters, Working on my list now
      *Movie Experiences, not ‘Moving’ Experiences, Lol
      • paigeaddams says:
        Lol – yeah these are some of my very favorite movies. 🙂
        Unleashed is suprisingly touching – lol, I don’t usually equate ‘touching’ with a martial arts/action movie, but this one actually is. Admittedly, I am a bit of a sap though. 🙂
        Oooo – juicy gossip!! 🙂 Lol, I had heard that Kate Beckinsale was dating her co-star, and that it ended, but I didn’t realize all that drama had gone on. Lol, no wonder he was not in this last one. Man, I hope if they do decide to do another one, and have Michael in it, that they choose wisely when it comes to a replacement actor for that part.
        I used to love watching Alien when I was a kid – and I still do. Lol, it scared the crap out of me, but I loved it. 🙂 And Ripley has always been one of my heroes!
        And I have to agree, Leeloo is totally cute. Lol, it’s deceptive, because she’s also totally capable of mopping the floor with her enemies. 🙂 She’s so cool!
  3. darkjade68 says:
    Ripley is probably the Strongest Female Character I can think of… She definitely reminded me of my Mom… In Spirit that is, Lol
      I don’t know all the circumstances, but I’ve seen you talk about her before – your mom sounds like an amazing woman. 🙂 It takes a lot of strength to be a parent, and I think even more to be a single parent. That’s the way I feel about my mom too – she’s another one of my heroes, right up there with Ripley and my grandpa. 🙂
      • darkjade68 says:
        Yeah, she worked at a Pizza Parlor, Clothing Stores, Toys R Us, whatever it took… Though my Dad did pay Child Support, and Alimony, we still struggled with money, but she always made our Childhood feel like an Adventure. My Brother and I had the Best Possible Childhood I could Imagine, and it mainly had to do with our Imaginations, and our Love from My Mom… She’s the Best
        Cool that you feel that way about your Mom as well
        I only met one of My Grandpas, but he was Great
      Thank you! 🙂 I had a lot of fun with this challenge, lol. I was also thinking of Sarah Connor from Terminator and Alice from Resident Evil too. 🙂 Oooo – or Sarah Pezzini from Witchblade! Lol, yeah – I watch *a lot* of movies and tv. 🙂
  5. Thanks for including me in this fun adventure in self-disclosure, Paige! You sure picked some kick-butt characters. I guess those we pick tell an awful lot about who we are. And I suppose that’s the point! This is going to be fun!! 🙂
    • paigeaddams says:
      You’re welcome Lorna. 🙂 I love these challenges, and this one was especially fun. Lol, there were so many great characters to choose from, it was such a tough choice! 🙂 I’m looking forward to seeing your picks! 🙂
  6. Harry says:
    Thank you Page , i will have to think about it as i do not watch films, sad 😦
    • paigeaddams says:
      You’re welcome. 🙂 Lol, I’m such a couch potato – I spend way, way too much time watching movies I think. 🙂 It doesn’t have to be movies though. You could post about your favorite book characters or tv characters if you watch tv? Or you could do a real life circle of five? Like your heroes maybe? Lol, I don’t always follow the rules on these challenges. 🙂
  7. […] that spirit, I’ve been tagged by Paige Addams to participate in the Circle of Five challenge.  The rules are that you must list five fantasy […]
    To fight along side with:
    Agent 47, Dread Pirate Roberts, Matthew Quigly, Shrek, Maximus Decimus Meridius, and Hit Girl
    • disperser says:
      Just to be clear . . . they are fantasy, if not in the strictest sense.
      • paigeaddams says:
        Lol, I love your picks! 🙂 The Princess Bride is one of my favorite movies – even more than Thor, The Avengers, or Batman. 🙂 Lol, me and the husband even quote the movie when we’re joking with each other. “You keep using that word… I do not think it means what you think it means…”
      • disperser says:
        Mine is “My way’s not very sportsman-like.”
      • paigeaddams says:
        Lol, yep I love that one too. 🙂
