Hello all! Sorry for my recent absence from blogging – lol, I’ve run into a few time management issues. 🙂
But I’m back (again, lol) and I’ve got all kinds of things in the works for the upcoming months. I’m super excited, and I’d like your feedback on something. 🙂
I’ve got this idea that’s been buzzing around in my head, and I’m dying to post it, but it does have a possible drawback.
So, here’s the plan:
I’ve been wanting to write this Dragon Age fanfiction for months and months now, lol. I mentioned it before, and put it on the back burner until I could figure out how to pull it off.
Dragon Age is a video game where you can make decisions that effect the ending. You can be good or bad, nice and polite or aggressive and motivated by money and power. And you can either make friends or enemies, or even have a love interest.
And that’s exactly how I want to write the fanfiction. I’d like to have options for you to choose from at the end of each post. Depending on what you think the character should do, the story will change, and you’ll get a different ending. I’ve got 5 endings already – ranging from ultra happy to ultra darkside. You can choose the path of good or evil. Only out for yourself, or willing to sacrifice for others. Whatever you want. 🙂
And here’s the part where it gets tricky, and perhaps annoying, although I sincerely hope not:
With all these possible choices and directions the story can go, I’ll end up posting several posts a day. This could be 5. Or maybe some crazy number like 10. Well, probably not 10 – that’s a bit of an over-exaggeration…. I think. 🙂 I’ll need to post several versions of the same chapter to reflect the effects of previous choices.
You’ll get a ton of e-mail notifications for new posts from me, and when you come to the blog, you’ll have to go back to the post you left off on, or the story index, to make sure you’re still following the right plotline.
I did find a plugin that could avoid all this confusion and e-mail spamming, but it’s compatible with WordPress.org, not WordPress.com. So instead, I’ll have to depend on the index, which I’ll update with every post, so you can get to the correct post.
So my question is, what do you think about this possible debacle?
Is it worth the potential e-mail spamming? Should I give it a shot, and go for it? What say you?
And I also have the next chapter of Ascension ready for you. Lol, it was killing me not to be able to write for the past couple weeks, so I’m super excited to share my next chapter with you guys. I hope you like it! 🙂
Until next time, Happy Writing! 🙂
I like this idea, but I can see the potential problem with all those different paths and all the emails it would generate. One idea that occurs to me is that instead of following every possible path people vote on, have a poll where people get to vote on the next item. The direction that wins in a certain amount of time determines the next section that’s posted. Whatever you decide to do, I’m looking forward to it!
I like that idea! 🙂 Doing a poll for the options would make it much, *much* cleaner, lol. And much less confusing too. I wouldn’t have to worry about doing several different versions at once. Thank you for your suggestion David! 🙂 I’ll keep working on tweaking this story.
Although I love the idea of the freedom of choosing an ending, I agree with David that seeing so many emails would scare me! I have enough trouble keeping up with my regular blog reading and emails!
The idea of a poll is a good one IF people actually vote. I haven’t had great success at getting people to vote, but maybe you will. Another idea is to select what you think are the best two endings to move the story along in divergent paths. Give us only two choices. 2 emails is better that 5 or 10! 😉
Lol, I know exactly what you mean. I have trouble keeping up with my blog reading too. 🙂 A lot happens in a day in the blogging world, let alone the past month I’ve missed, lol.
And I like your idea about 2 divergent paths. That could definitely cut down on the potential e-mail spamming. 🙂
