BARBIE SURPRISE!!!!

Female Warrior Imageย  Lol – more than slightly confused by that post title? ๐Ÿ˜€

Tonight, it’s all about my best friend – M. Please allow me to explain to the tune of one of our favorite songs. We would stay up all night dancing to this one. ๐Ÿ™‚

What happens when you get two 11 year olds alone in a kitchen at about 3am, hopped up on pizza, coke (the beverage, although you may wonder if the pop was spiked after this post), and whatever candy we could get our hands on, with parental supervision sleeping soundly upstairs, blissfully unaware?

BARBIE SURPRISE!!!!

That’s what.

What’s BARBIE SURPRISE!!!! you ask, and why does it require all caps and four exclamation points in the middle of an otherwise reasonably structured sentence?

Because it’s just that epic.

So, I was a big Barbie fan back in the day (17 years ago, lol), and I had this book from when I was little. I’m pretty sure it was either called “Barbie Surprise” or had the phrase somewhere in the book. At any rate, around this time I also acquired the all time awesomest toy in the universe. I’m almost positive. Best. Toy. Ever.

A remote control Barbie float thinger.

Seriously.

In the living room, cushioned on the carpet, it moved at a sedate, parentally approved pace.

However – on a linoleum kitchen floor that baby flew. Like fast enough that if you tried to stop it suddenly it would skid for another foot or so.

Enter Barbie, in her pretty pink ball gown. And a chair obstacle course with ramps.

We Evel Knievel’d poor Barbie all around that kitchen. Zipping through chairs, ramping off stacked cookbooks, and doing dizzying 180’s that sent her soaring off her float, sending the cats and dogs running for cover. Half the time she wiped out, either clotheslined by a chair, or running into the fridge or cabinets when we lost control.

I remember both of us laughing until our stomachs hurt. Like the kind of laughter where you can barely breathe, your eyes are watering, and anything you try to say sounds like gibberish.

When my mom came down around 5 or 6, she thought we had lost our minds.

At M’s funeral, her dad encouraged us to remember the good times, and to celebrate her life. So I wanted to share one of my favorite memories with you. It may be one of those ‘you’d have to be there’ things, but I hope at least it made you smile, and think of the good, and possibly rediculously silly, times you’ve had with your friends and family. ๐Ÿ™‚

Now for the chapter. It took me a while to write this one. I hope you guys like it.

Lol, and for all you gamers out there – I’ve also referenced two of her favorite video games, both of the PS1 era. ๐Ÿ™‚ In the hopes of *not* being sued, I tried to keep the references fairly subtle. One of them is very hard to catch unless you know what to look for, lol. Let me know if you can pick them out. ๐Ÿ™‚

I also wanted to take this time to say I’m sorry to all those who’ve left comments on my posts over the past month that I haven’t answered yet. I’ve been almost completely disconnected from the online world during this time. Lol, it may be a smidge late, but I’ll beย responding to those next. ๐Ÿ™‚

Until next time, Take Care and Happy Reading! ๐Ÿ™‚

Lol, oh it totally was! We were so young, and just plain having a blast. Poor Barbie’s hair was never quite the same after all that flying and crashing. She kind of had this Bride of Frankenstein thing going. XD
