DA FF: Blades (6b: Separate Paths)

I shake my head, smiling ruefully. “I’m grateful that you and Briall fought beside us today, but it’s time we get back to the Blades.”

“I understand,” Vaellen says. I can tell he’s disappointed, but he accepts my decision gracefully. “You’ve already done so much for me. Thank you, my friend.”

“Give us some time,” I say, not wanting to leave him without any help at all. “Once the Blades are on their feet again, I’ll send a group to fight beside you.”

There’s a crash from inside Sylas’ room, followed by loud cursing and a series of thuds, and we both pause.

A grin spreads over Vaellen’s face. “I think we should return, before Sylas and Caleb kill each other.”

Lightside Ending 3

Denerim, Silent Blades hideout

A few months later

Sitting in my study, I lean back in my chair as I go over the latest report from Tevinter. Tensions between the mages and templars are only getting worse, and I have yet to decide which direction I want to take the Silent Blades.

It’s taken us time, but the Blades are getting back to what they were before. Better even, without Jeremiah’s influence. Any Blades who wanted to become mercenaries have long since left, and the remaining Blades have renewed their vows. Sylas and Caleb have stayed by my side, supporting me as I lead the Blades back onto the right path.

Even after sending Blades to help find and kill Karinn, Vaellen still suffers from nightmares sometimes. They’re nothing like they were before, however, and he no longer feels the need to share a room with someone else. It’s becoming easier for him to resist the demons that try to tempt him, but it sounds like it’s always an uphill battle, unfortunately.

What still troubles him the most, however, is the loss of the relic. No one has been able to locate it. He fears what it could be used for in the future, if it’s ever found.

Briall has become a helpful ally, relaying information to the Silent Blades contact in Minrathous. It’s reassuring to have someone with his social and political reach on our side, especially after the events at the Conclave. What should have been a possibility for peace between the mages and templars, has become the breaking point in their war. Many on both sides died there when the sky was torn open, creating the Breach. Even the Divine was caught in the disaster there.

It seems the only people interested in finding the source of the Breach, and the smaller rifts opening all across the world, is the Inquisition. Siding with neither the mages or the templars, and serving no country in particular, they may be the safest bet right now. As far as I can tell, they don’t seem to have any other agenda.

A rare thing, these days.

Based on the chaos that seems to be slowly taking over, more demons slipping through the rifts every day, I know we have to act. I’ve decided to pledge the Blades to the Inquisition.

Whoever is behind this madness must be stopped, and I’ve never been one to patiently sit on the sidelines.
